A Weekend In Swaledale
Our weekend away is set in picturesque Swaledale in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. The holiday will be centred in the market town of Reeth with walks in both Swaledale and the nearby Wensleydale.
Reeth is about a 4 hour drive from Bedford, just off the A1 by Catterick Garrison. The town and surrounding villages have a wide variety of accommodation available for you to book.

We have four walks planned for over the course of the weekend:-

We start the weekend with a Friday afternoon walk from the centre of Reeth up and along Fremington Edge.

On Saturday we move over to the nearby Wensleydale and Aysgarth to explore the River Ure and its picturesque waterfalls

On Sunday we move West along Swaledale to the village of Keld where you have the option of a full day walk, across the moors to Tan Hill Inn, the highest PH in England. Or a half day walk to Muker, and back along the Swale

We finish the weekend off with a Monday morning short walk around Reeth, Grinton and Harkerside Moor.
The Sunday evening group meal is at The Buck Hotel, Reeth @ 7.00 .

For those of you that do not wish to join the group walks, there are a variety of opportunities to explore the area from a gentle stroll along the River Swale to a chance to complete the Coast to Coast section from Keld to Reeth. I will be happy to provide with some ideas and a map of the route.
Equally for those of you who would like to practice your map reading and compass skills, please let me know and I will provide both the maps and the opportunities.
LOCAL INFORMATION
Reeth is sometimes described as the capital of Swaledale, it is situated in a natural amphitheatre and surrounded by spectacular scenery, it is an ideal place from which to enjoy a walk in the Yorkshire Dales.
Originally a Saxon settlement, it was once a major contributor to England’s lead industry, whilst the lead has long gone the ruins of the industry can still be seen all over the local moors.
Whilst our four walks are mainly situated in Swaledale itself we will have the opportunity to explore the nearby Wendsleydale famous for its cheese and Wallace & Grommit.
